SEPTEMBER NONPROFIT HIGHLIGHT: BELLINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

“BPSF raises funds and stewards community resources so every child feels healthy, engaged, supported and challenged. Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their highest potential in the classroom and beyond”. This is the BPSF’s mission, they are committed to ensuring that every student in the Bellingham community is equipped to learn and thrive!

They assist in many facets of education, one of them being STEM education. In a world increasingly driven by technology and innovation, hands-on opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, and math is increasingly important. BPSF supports STEM education across all grade levels by providing tools and equipment for young learners, fund enrichment that sparks curiosity, and support field-based experiential learning.

Arts and music are another vital part of a well-rounded education. BPSF helps sustain students’ engagement with creative learning by funding classroom grants, curriculum enhancements, concert and production support, and the maintenance of hundreds of musical instruments!

Mental health support is a critical area where BPSF’s impact is deeply felt. For high school students facing anxiety, depression, eating disorders, or trauma, BPSF helps ensure counseling services are available. For younger children, the Foundation provides resources that support social-emotional learning both in the classroom and on the playground.

The Foundation’s work also addresses the most basic and urgent needs facing students and their families. More than 30% of students in Bellingham qualify for free lunch, and nearly 8% will experience homelessness during the school year. These challenges can make it nearly impossible for students to be ready to learn. Hunger, exhaustion, illness, and cold are barriers no child should face. That’s why BPSF helps provide food, housing assistance, clothing, and medication to hundreds of families each year.
