July Highlight: Girls on Shred

JULY NONPROFIT HIGHLIGHT: GIRLS ON SHRED

Founded in 2010, Girls on Shred is a nonprofit organization dedicated to hosting free clinics in skateboarding, roller skating, snowboarding, and skiing for young people of marginalized genders. Their mission is to “empower youth and marginalized genders. including women, non-binary, and trans folks, and build community through action sports skill-building, equipment sharing, and accessible community events.”

The organization places a strong emphasis on skill development, reducing financial barriers to action sports, and fostering a sense of belonging within the community. Through these efforts, Girls on Shred promotes both physical and mental wellness among marginalized youth.

They achieve their mission by offering free clinics across various action sports and providing access to gear at each event. In the winter months, they go even further offering free protective gear from ProTec, lift tickets, rental equipment, and even gas money to ensure no one is left out due to cost.

These programs are made possible through their “Shred it Forward Fundraising” initiative, which includes annual skate deck art auctions, live music events, and other fun community gatherings. All proceeds go directly toward supporting youth access and building a stronger, more inclusive action sports culture.

Aslan is matching all donations made to the Girls on Shred through our online and in-house round up program (up to $2,000) throughout July.
